Paver Patio VS. Stamped Concrete Patio

3/21/2018

Comments

We get questions about paver and concrete patios a lot when going to give an estimate to a client.  Which one is better: paver or concrete?  What is cheaper? What will last longer?  What problems will I have?  Here we answered the pros and cons of each and why we believe paver patios are the better option.
Go to the beautiful streets in older downtown's and you will see aged pavers that have stood the test of time.  They also still look amazing, yet the concrete around it has been replaced many times and is probably already starting to show signs of wear.

Paver Patio

  • PRO: After a Paver Patio is installed you can use it right away.
  • PRO:  If a paver crackes for any reason or the patio shifted it can be easily fixed.  This is low cost repair.
  • PRO: Pavers are typical more durable and last long than stamped concrete as it does not wear down like stamp concrete does.
  • PRO:  Many designs and patterns can be created to make you the dream look you have always desired.
  • PRO: Can be cheaper than stamped concrete, depending on the type of paver that is used.
  • PRO: Buckling or stained pavers can be easily removed and repaired or replaced.

Stamped Concrete Patio

  • CON: After a Stamped Concrete Patio is installed you need to wait 3 to 5 days before use for it to cure.
  • CON:  If the concrete cracks or shifts for any reason it can be very difficult to fix or correct.  This can be very costly repair.
  • CON:  Not as durable as pavers and will crack over time. Also the stamp can wear off leaving bare and unsightly concrete patches.
  • PRO: Many designs and patterns can be created to make you the dream look you have always desired.
  • CON:  In our area I have seen stamped concrete typically cost more than paver patios.
  • CON: Buckling can cause cracks and stains are there forever.
