How do I use my fire pit safely?

6/9/2021

Picture
Have you installed a fire pit recently? Make sure that you are using it safely!

First, make sure that the area around your fire pit is clear. If you have any heat sensitive plants, open firewood, bales of hay, pillows or any other flammable materials, make sure they have been moved away from the area.

If you have a gas fire pit, you are able to start it up with the click of a button. If you have a wood burning fire pit, it will require a little more work to get the fire going.

As you begin to build your fire, make sure that you don’t use any starter logs or gels if you are planning on cooking or roasting marshmallows over the flame. You don’t want to ingest harmful chemicals. You also don’t want to use pressure treated wood. This will also cause toxic fumes that you don’t want your family breathing in.

To build a fire in the pit, place larger logs on the bottom. Speed the logs out to cover the base. Next, place smaller logs on top in a criss-cross pattern—this will allow airflow. Next, add some tinder. Tinder can be created from dry grass, leaves or newspaper. Finish off by placing smaller twigs on top. Light the tinder with a long match or lighter and watch the fire get going. Enjoy time around the fire!

Finally, make sure that when you are done enjoying your fire pit that the flames are completely put out. Allow your fire to burn down completely to ash. If you aren’t able to do that, pour water over the fire to make sure that all the embers are drowned. Continue until there is no more hissing. Another alternative is to cover the embers with damp dirt or sand. Just make sure that there aren’t embers before leaving the fire pit unattended.

It’s that time again to start making resolutions! If you’re like me, you’ve probably resolved to eat healthier and exercise more, but again, if you’re like me, those resolutions won’t last long. How about creating some resolutions that we can stick to? Resolve to make 2021 the year that you get the landscape you’ve been wanting for years! It could be easier than you think! Check out some projects that you can make your goal to complete this year!

Add a fire pit
We can’t stress this enough, a fire pit is the perfect outdoor living addition to your back yard. It is such a great center piece to have everyone gathered round. Some use it for warmth, some use it for ambiance, but it is perfect for both. It is especially fun to gather round with the family and toast marshmallows to make s’mores!

Landscaping Package
Spend more time with your family and let us do the work for you. We have several different package options, but we can keep your lawn looking great all year long. Check out our packages on the home page of our website!

Plant Shrubs
Shrubs are a wonderful addition to any landscape. They add great personality to any home landscape. They also make great border plants!

Plant Flowers
Who doesn’t love flowers? They add the perfect pop of color to any area. You can also always have fresh flowers in the house when you have a fresh supply out in your yard!

Grow a Garden
Nothing is better than fresh vegetables, fruits and herbs out of the garden. While you can get the most output in the summer, gardens can be grown all year round! There is always something to grow and harvest and I can guarantee it will taste better than anything you can find at the store!

Add a Patio
Patios are a wonderful addition to spruce up the back yard. It is the best investment because you will use it more than you know. We are lucky enough to live in a place where we don’t have too harsh of a winter, so you are sure to use a patio space all year long!

Many of these projects you might feel like you can tackle on your own, but for others you may want our help! We would love to assist you in helping you meet these resolutions in 2021 and beyond. Give us a call today at (864)275-2039!

More Than Just Wood Burning--Fire Pit Inserts

12/12/2018

Comments

We love fire pits, especially this time of year when the evenings are cold! Your backyard should be a place where you and your family can escape to, to enjoy time together after a long day. Just because winter is approaching, doesn’t mean that you should have to stop enjoying your backyard! The addition of a fire pit can extend the life of your backyard throughout the entire year. We have featured several blogs about fire pits, but did you know that you could have
a gas fire pit instead of just wood burning?

Gas fire pit inserts are a great alternative to wood burning fire pits. With wood burning fire pits, you have to make sure that you always have wood on hand. You also almost always walk away smelling like smoke after sitting around the fire. You won’t have these worries anymore with a gas fire pit insert. You can have a fire with just the click of a button! It makes life simpler and gives you more time to spend gathered 'round the fire pit instead of spending extra time getting the fire started. We highly recommend a fire pit insert!

We are more than happy to answer any questions you may have about fire pit inserts. Give us a call, send us a message, or drop us a comment below!

Top 5 Reasons to Install a Fire Pit

10/10/2018

Comments

This weekend the temperatures are dropping---FINALLY! Lows are in the forties, so we are finally getting those lovely fall nights we have all been hoping for. Right now is the perfect time to have a fire pit or a fireplace in your back yard! Here are 5 reasons fire pits make a great addition to any back yard!

  1. Focal Point: Fire pits make a great focal point! They are a beautiful piece to have in the center of your back yard area even when it’s not in use.
  2. Memories: Fire pits are great for entertaining. Invite all of your friends over for a fun night ‘round the fire! Or even just enjoy a cozy date night snuggled up in blankets with a glass of wine. The kids will love the comfort of the fire pit, too. There are so many memories to be made!
  3. Year Round Use: The best times for a fire pit are fall and winter when you want to get outside, but it is colder than usual. However, it can be used all year round, even in the summer to make fun snacks like s’mores.
  4. Outdoor Cooking: Taking the cooking out of the kitchen makes it more fun, especially for kids. Roast hotdogs over the open flame and then roast marshmallows for s’mores! You can even wrap chicken and potatoes in aluminum foil and place it in the flame to cook. The possibilities are endless!
  5. Natural light: Why just enjoy your back yard during the day? The light from the fire not only puts out heat for those cool nights, but creates natural light.

We would love to install the fire pit of your dreams! If you have any questions, drop us a comment, send us a message, or give us a call. We will be happy to answer any of your questions!

  2. Focal Point:  Fire pits are a good focal point in your back yard and provide beauty and elegant to your space.  They provide natural light that is very cozy and warm.
  3. Easy to Use:  Many people think of fire pits as natural wood burning, but that is not always the best.  Some areas have burn restrictions, so the best option is a gas fire pit.  Gas fire pits are easy to install and you simply turn the fire on and off.
  4. Use in Any Space:  Whether you have a small or large back yard a fire pit will work in any space.  In a small space it will be the centerpiece of the yard and in a large space it will can be the show stopping space.
  5. Date Night:  Creating the perfect date night is easy.  A fire pit can provide a great place to relax and cozy up on a date night.  Snuggle beneath the stars and make memories with your loved one.
  6. Year Around Use:  A fire pit is perfect for winter so you can use your outdoor space in the coldest of weather while staying warm.  In the fall get some warm cider, blankets and cozy up by the fire.  Spring and Summer is the perfect time to make some s'mores with the family.
  7. Dinner by the Fire:  Make dinner over the fire pit.  It is the perfect place to make hot dogs by the fire.  Fire pits can be installed with or without grill kits.
  8. Family Memories:  A fire pit will keep your kids at home and help create more valuable memories that your kids will never forget.
  9. Affordable:  Fire pits can cost as little as $800.  No matter what your budget is your dream fire pit can be created. We can install your dream fire pit at your home.  Let the professionals help you today.
  10. Selling Point: Fire pits were one of the top three request that potential home owners were looking for while shopping for a new home last year. A small fire pit is not only attractive but it can improve your homes value by making your home more appealing to buyers. A realtor once told me a "2000 fire pit can add 10,000 to your home value and help it sell quicker." Although who would want to leave once they had their dream outdoor space.
