It can be hard to know when is the right time to fertilize your lawn. Sometimes, it is just something that is forgotten, but your lawn needs to be fertilized, too! Just as we discussed in our blog about yard fungi, it is easy to get hints about whether or not you have a healthy lawn simply by looking at it! While you can have your soil tested to be sure, the first hint should always be by looking to see if your lawn is abnormal in color. Your grass may need potassium if it is yellowing and the edges are browning. If your grass is lacking phosphorus, it may be a blue-green color with some purple or red blades. If it is lacking nitrogen, it may be a yellow color and you may notice that you have less grass clippings after mowing your lawn. An iron deficiency may also leave your lawn a yellow color.
Early fall is a great time to fertilize your lawn (and it’s almost here, believe it or not)! The middle of spring is also a great time to apply fertilizer. Basically, you just want to make sure that it isn’t too hot or too cold because this will add stress to your lawn. If you have any questions or concerns about your lawn, drop us a comment, send us a message or give us a call. We will be happy to answer any of your questions!
